Blends

Blends in products contain industrial chemicals of individual interest to AICIS.

A blend in Chemintro is simply a collection of links between chemicals where each link specifies the component proportion in the blend.

A blend can be tagged as a flavour/fragrance blend. If so, it can be categorised under special rules for typically low risk (<=1% concentrations) in end-use products.

Tagged or not, blends are useful for efficient data entry when a number of products have largely the same set of ingredients. Chemintro handles blends as follows:

All blends:

  • A named blend may have its own CAS number and chemical properties
  • Any single chemical may simultaneously be in numerous blends
  • Inserting a blend in a product at a particular proportion, inserts its linked chemicals pro rata in their correct product proportions
  • If a product has existing chemical ingredients in common with any in the blend, the proportion in the product of those chemicals will be automatically adjusted

Flavour/fragrance blends:

  • A blend becomes a Flavour/fragrance blend if one or more of the abovementioned links are tagged accordingly
  • Flavour/fragrance categorisation rules apply to chemicals in Flavour/fragrance blends
